I have played violin and viola since I was 12 years old — now I’m 68. A couple of years ago I rented a cello and took lessons from a community-based music school. I enjoyed it but had to drop out for conflicting activities. What experiences or desires do others here have?
Hi, Chris. I’m a Chris also – Christopher! I taught myself piano from the age of 9, commencing formal lessons at 11 years old, having to try to ‘unlearn’ all that bad technique I had entrenched. My poor piano teacher! Later, I commenced teaching piano and music theory privately, after my day job. I may return to that. Let’s see. That said, I’ve always had a desire to learn cello, after having been inspired by the knowledge that my paternal grandmother was ‘2nd Fiddle’ in Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (Australia) in the swinging 1920’s. One aim is to learn violin though my primary aim is to learn cello. I am enamoured by the cello. I hope I can rise to the challenge once circumstances change for me. Happy to make your online acquaintance.
