    Christie Morehouse

I am going to try filling the grooves (old violin) in the nut on my violin to keep the D & A strings from resting on the G & E pegs. Crazy idea?

I’ve never done it personally, but a friend of mine replace mine with a bone nut. He seemed to do a good job. I’ve replaced one on a banjo before and it worked out, but violins are a whole different story. If you fill the holes in and it doesn’t work out, you can always attempt just replacing it.

I’d suggest having a luthier look at it. It is always better having a professional do it than trying to do it yourself!
