This is my solo I was telling you about last night! It went better than I thought it would!

Excellent Job! That sounds like a hard one to learn too, but you did great!

I’ll be honest, it was a little difficult, but I kept practicing and practicing! ALL that mattered was that I had fun and EVERYONE LOVES seeing my viola case when I walk in through the doors!

The sound is nice. To my uncritical ear it sounds like a professional performance.
And yes, one gets so proud to walk with the case with our instrument inside. When you watch the people’s reaction it gives you even more joy and inspiration to practice.

Thank you SO much for your kind words! I have the BEST congregation members! They tell me “Don’t worry if you mess up! We CAN’T see the sheet music! ALL that matters is that you know how much we LOVE to hear you play that viola!” Warms my heart EVERY time!

But it’s true. No one is ever going to check if you played all the score correctly. All that matters is to see confidence in your movements and your love to what you are playing. With them every performance will be successful even if something goes a little wrong.

Good performance overall! I would say the biggest things to work on would be to make sure you are using more bow with the quarter notes. It is easy to not do that during a performance, but eventually you will a fuller tone by extending your arm and getting to the tip. I thought your tone was still very good without doing this, so it will be even better when you start doing that!

I suggest watching the index drill which will show you how to rely more on the index to guide the bow and ease tension off of your arm. Especially pay attention to doing this drill at the tip of the bow.

    Overall Grade – A-

WOW! Thank you so much, Michael! I have been working with my bow hand and position…
