I started playing violin 3 weeks ago and I’ve been finding myself practicing more and more. In the last few days I’ve been noticing some discomfort and soreness in my right shoulder. I’m guessing that it has to do with having a lot of tension in my playing that I am still trying to work out, but I don’t know for sure. I do feel like I tend to keep a tense and rigid shoulder as I am trying to bow straight. As I understand it, some shoulder movement is necessary for good form.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I should look into correcting in my playing technique? Could it simply be practicing too much? I have had a lot of enthusiasm as I feel like I’ve really found my instrument after trying the guitar, clarinet and piano, so I have been practicing quite a lot.
