I practiced scales and etudes tonight for 30 minutes for the first time in a long while. I was anything but relaxed. The muscles in my hand and wrist were burning by the time I was finished. While I was practicing my 3 year old granddaughter brought her violin and practiced with me. She played for a good 20 minutes. Of course, we were playing 2 different pieces of music. Yes, she has her own 1/32nd violin, which is now too small for her. She fits a 1/10th now.
The violin requires so much energy to play that I don’t call it relaxing, but I am learning to relax enough as I play for it to be enjoyable. Also learning to relax my hand enough to attempt vibrato. Shifting positions isn’t too difficult, so I feel like that is a good sign.
