When do you typically practice? How many times a week, and what time of day?

I practice daily, usually in early evening and at least one hour., I usually start with scales to warm up then sight read or practice on a tune that I am working on

I practice every day. I take my violin out about mid-morning and practice for short periods throughout the day. I have to confess I am rather obsessed with it right now because I have only been playing for a couple of months. My practice sessions have evolved into a sort of reward for getting my chores done throughout the day, lol. I think “just let me get this load of clothes folded and put away and then I can have a few minutes with the violin”.

With my teacher I am working through Suzuki Book 1 and the songs are becoming more demanding. I am starting to put the fourth finger down. Ouch! What she doesn’t know is that I have gone off the rails into bluegrass territory. So in addition to the Suzuki stuff, I practice other songs that appeal to me. Yes, I am sneaky! But my soul cries out that I MUST perfect Redwing 🙂

Hi Cynthia! You should tell your Suzuki teacher that you want to do some fiddling. I can’t imagine why she would disagree. Did you know Redwing is very similar to Happy Farmer in Book I?

I usually practice in the evening after supper. It could be anywhere from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. I try to practice before the kids go to bed whenever possible since I can then play without a mute.

Cynthia: I’m somewhat similar. I want to learn violin music but I also want to fiddle. To allow this, I usually practice two songs at a time – one that’s more traditionally violin and one that’s a fiddle tune.

Hello, I play the violin now 11 months and I’m really started much too late but better late than never! I exercise every day and do it when I feel like it. Sometimes that’s half an hour but can also anticipate to 2 or 3 hours. I think it is a fantastic tool and recommend everyone to not give up and continue to exercise. It really pays off!
