I have to say that Michael’s instructions for vibrato are finally allowing me to develop a free, fluid motion in my vibrato. It’s still not as consistent as I would like, but it’s much better than it was, and I know with focused practice it will get better! Thanks Michael!

I have another question. Years ago my teacher recommended playing a single note, usually first finger b on the a string using long bows and a metronome set at about 60. She said to start with one pulse per beat, then two, there, and four, and do on. Do you find this helpful?

@laurie, YES that is the way to go with practicing the vibrato! Consistent vibration and back and forth wobble. Remember to keep the bow playing smoothly in one legato motion, like a slur. 🙂

I am still working on vibrato but I know with steady practice it will come.

@dilawless: yes consistent, dedicated practice is the way to go, even after you have mastered the technique. Otherwise it will go away. I think that’s why I haven’t developed a good vibrato after all these years.

@dilawless: yes you have to keep at it, even after you’ve mastered the technique, or it will go away. Hang in there. You’re right; it will come.

Sorry for the double post. The first time I submitted it I got an error message about a duplicate post (?), So I rephrased it and submitted it again. I then found that both had been posted.

Well every time I think I have it, I find I don’t. I guess I’ll have to keep at it too!

Try with your second or third finger first, they are the ones that “get it” before the first and forth fingers.
