I always seem to have some trouble with not becoming too exhausted when I play heavy fiddle tunes. Any advice on pacing while playing these long, sometimes physically tiring tunes? I’ve been playing for over 15 years and sometimes my right arm just wants to give out!

I think the best way to avoid fatigue is to remain relaxed with the bow hold, fingers, arm and wrist. Also one needs the proper mixture of individual notes and slurs to keep the rhythm going..

Also check out many Irish fiddling youtube videos. I use that to practice tunes.

Try Father Kelly’s reel. Great tune and relatively easy to play.

You should play some each day to build up your stammina. I would also have someone look at your technique. Sometimes playing incorrectly will tire you out sooner.

It’s best to play with others in a session.
