It seems like I can always find time to practice. I’m about to start a graduate program in a few weeks and I am a little concerned that I won’t have as much time, but i’m sure I will be able to figure it out. Although, just the other day, I started practicing while I was cooking and lost track of time. I ended up burning the food, so I’ll try to avoid that.

Being a college student its sometimes difficult to get the right amount of practice in, but I realize how important it is.

I really need to practice. I tend to have procrastination issues. Hope I can make time whether it be 15 minutes or 1 hour.

Thank you for the encouragement! I also enjoying my practice time, but typically its at the end of the day after work – and so I am exhausted and honestly, not very patient with myself. As an older beginner, my fingers are not as nimble as I would like them to be…and they just don’t cooperate sometimes!

I like to focus on difficult passages, played slowly smoothly and with economy of bow motion, and then gradually increasing tempo.

I have a lot of times to practice but when that time comes I don’t feel like I need to practice. So I have to study violin more soon to increase my practising time..

My problem is not time. I have plenty of that. My problem is that it makes me nervous to practice when someone else is in the house, and mom is always in the house. Practicing more effectively would help alleviate that.

MaryKateW…. I had same the issue. I would put off practicing until I knew I was alone in the whole house. I soon found out that didn’t cut it. I realized I wasn’t going to get any better if I didn’t put in the time. So I set up a spare bedroom with my music stand and designated it as my private music room. I could go in there any time, practice for as long as I needed, and leave everything “set up” so I could easily go practice without disruption. I still knew someone was in the house, but by shutting the door to the room, I was able to get past that too. If you have an area of your home that you can do that, I’d suggest you make it your own and get your practice time in. Good luck!

    Micheal,
I have been using the practice session structure that you laid out. I am making awesome progress… how ever i feel like im moving to fast through series 1 course… i am practicing pretty much everyday for 20-60 minutes sometimes twice in day.its only take me a few days at a time or less to get a section down. Is this OK? or does that sound about right. it says series 1 should last 3 months. ( i did have some basic already from when i played a few years ago ill be it only for a few months then) but its been a month and im pretty much down i think i have 3 videos left. biggest issue im having is with reading music. =(
