Just joined the group and wanted to say hi. I have been following for a while. My name is Kenny and I’m 62 yrs. old. I played trumpet in band in my high school days, took a little piano lessons and play guitar a little. I always wanted to play the fiddle but like others thought it was to hard. A friend at work had just started playing and we talked, found out he had an extra violin he could sell for $200 so I bought it and started playing by ear. Didn’t know any thing about technic and then after a little time the e string broke and I didn’t pick it back up for about 4 yrs. Then several months ago I found this site and now I am trying out the El Damiano and loving it. I am pretty much starting as a beginner and struggling with these stiff wrist of mine but it is coming along.
Any way hi to everyone and thank you Michael

Hi Kenny! Welcome from one newbie to another! While you’re having a hard time with your wrist, I’m struggling with my bow hold. Keep us up on your progress! Deirdre

I know what you mean about stiff wrists. I am a beginner and had to start with 5 minute practice sessions. Then my wrists, neck, and shoulders would be sore for the rest of the day. I even had to take days off in between to recover! I’m only 45! Its been 3 months now and I can practice daily for 20-30 minutes. My wrists still get a little sore though. I do think as adults, we enjoy the process more and are more patient.

My husband gets a good chuckle watching me. I put a quarter on the back of my hand and half the time it falls off when I stop looking at it! I feel like the Karate Kid, “wax on; wax off”!
