My name is Tracye, I am 53; I am from Texas, but now live in Boquete Panama.

I picked up the violin for the first time in January 2014. I had never played a musical instrument, but have always wanted to learn the violin.

I found Micheal’s old site and signed up. I bought a beginner violin from him and played on it for about 10 months, taking online lessons from Michael when he was doing Skype lessons.

I became quite enamored with the Elda Marina when I heard how warm of a sound it produced and saw how beautiful it was; it was not a hard decision to trade in my beginner violin and buy the Elda Marina. I love that violin!!

I still take online Skype lessons from another teacher and am making pretty decent progress.

Picking up the violin was one of the best decisions I have made, I really enjoy it.

Hi Tracye….The Elda Marina is such a beautiful instrument! I’m so happy for you that you have it! I understand why you love it! 🙂 Did it take you a while to get used to using Skype? It’s such a great way to communicate and to be able to take lessons over it is awesome…I just find it uncomfortable for some reason. I find it strange talking to a computer screen, I guess!

    Hi margaretellen,

I am a techy kind of girl, so Skype was easy for me to adjust to.

I did have a on site teacher for about 2 months (but also continued my Skype lessons)… and even though she only spoke Spanish and I only speak English, I did learn a lot from her in that short time…if I have the opportunity to have an onsite teacher, I would certainly take advantage of it, but think I would still take my Skype lessons. Since I am limited in options….Skype has been a real blessing.

Let me know if you want to do classes in Spanish Tracye, I am capable of speaking! Thanks for being such an active participator on the site. Your passion is really helping out other musicians that are interested in playing!

LOL…I do live in Panama…but do not speak Spanish other than to order food (I won’t starve to death) 🙂 …but learning Spanish is on my list of priorities…so once I get started on that, classes in Spanish might be fun.

I might have to start an area on my site that promotes lessons in Spanish. Would be great for people that want to learn a little bit of Spanish and also violin. Just a thought! 🙂 Could have different levels just like the violin classes.
