    Hi everyone,

I am originally from South Africa and moved to Australia in 2014. I started playing violin at 16 but stopped shortly after because of losing interest. I started again last year after buying a violin in Japan. Now I am motivated to take exams and progress to a level where I can comfortably play some beautiful classical compositions! I am loving this site and have learned so much. I think the most important thing I have learned here is to be a patient and measure my progress in months and not in weeks.

Right, you go 2 steps forward, 1 step back, 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

It definitely does feel like I am dancing the tango with myself, but I am starting to see the building blocks make something tangible. It is still slow going, but I know I will get there with patience and persistence.

Nice to hear both of you talk about 2 steps forward. one step back. I was feeling a little frustrated with myself and that really helped. Welcome Maxi126!

Hi Marlyayum, I was feeling the same way until I came across a video posted by Michael (I can’t remember what it’s called). In the video, Michael says that you shouldn’t try to measure your improvement in weeks and rather compare progress in months. If I think back to where I started to where I am now, I can definitely see a marked improvement. I am still a fair way off from my goal, but I at least can see that the work I am putting in now is making a huge difference.

    Hi Maxi,

Keep sharing you experience that motivates other participants on this forum as well. Definitely good to hear about you taking up violin again.
