    William Bickerstaff

This week I achieved a goal and an intermediate goal. One was to get over being nervous being recorded by my video recorder and another was to improve my vibrato and other things. I have recorded myself several times in the past week. I think it took a bit of “jumping on that horse” until it no longer bothers me. The vibrato improvements came as a result of posting those videos and taking to heart the advice and exercises for improvement given to me by Dianne Adkins. With just a little time working the exercises I was able to “deepen” my vibrato, even my 4th finger vibrato, and shift from position to position smoother by using the thumb as a guide, rather than the fingers guiding my thumb.

My reward(s) are… CDs of Paganini’s 24 Caprices (Julia Fischer), Handel’s Violin Sonatas (Ariadne Daskalakis) and Essential Hilary Hahn.
