Hey guys, I couldn’t help but post a “Devil Went Down to Georgia” video. I’ve been asked to play this song at least 10,000 times! I finally had to learn it, and have been “trying” to perfect it ever since. I’ve calmed down a little bit since doing this show about 8 years ago. 🙂 Did you guys know I used to play fiddle in Nashville and traveled with many Country music bands? Keep in mind there is a swear word towards the end of the piece (unfortunately Charlie Daniels couldn’t help himself).

Let me know what you guys think!

What do I remember from these days?
    1. I never thought I would be a teacher and be doing what I’m doing now.
    2. I broke at least 3 bows by throwing them up and they decided to hit ceiling fans.
    3. I was known as the crazy fiddle player that never seemed to be able to sit still (I’m sure you couldn’t tell). I’d be drenched by the end of a gig.

The biggest thing that I miss about the performance days is that it all was just about having fun. Music was about “letting it rip” and borderline exercise. I’ve calmed down quite a bit since these days as you guys know, but I still thought I’d share! Hope you guys can eventually have as much fun with music that I was having during those times.

This was awesome Michael. I did that song from 1979 until my accident in 1986. You are one heck of a showman and heck of a fiddle player and a wonderful teacher.

Thanks for sharing! I think it’s great that the same instrument can be used for classical music, country, or jazz depending on how the musician is in the mood to play! ?

Looks like a lot of fun!

Glad you guys enjoyed it! It’s a lot of fun performing music in front of people. I highly encourage you guys to try out even if it is just for one person. It’s not as hard as you think and can be fun once you get comfortable with it!

Hey Michael… you move a lot like I do when I get started with a hot jazz or blues solo. I once fell over backwards when I lifted my left leg up as I was doing a down stroke with my bow. I lost my balance and fell backwards and ended the fall in the lap of a young lady sitting near the stage. Luckily, no fiddlers, fiddles, bows nor audience members were injured during the performance… but man… what a rush!

Hey, Michael. Many of us have something like that in our pasts. I just wish my own antics revolved around such talent.

That’s awesome. You are a great musician and performer. I used to listen to that song all the time back in my wild days and you have a lot to live up to when you get on stage to play that piece….and even more if you’re playing with the Charlie Daniels band. I hope I can play this song well some day. Oh, and I should show this video to my violin teacher here….she is eighty something years old and when I was telling her about some of the lessons I take on here from you, she said that you sounded like an impressive violinist, but she wondered if you could play The devil Went Down to Georgia. She wondered the same about David Garrett. She really needs to get Internet service. haha. Thanks for sharing! I love it!

That was great! This is one reason that at the age of 57 I have decided to learn a new instrument. I play others but always have wanted to learn the violin, because with it you can play classical and it sounds more classical than other instruments and then you can go wild with it and it sounds wilder than other instruments. If you teach with the passion I saw on stage, I’m in good hands!! Way to JAM!!!

That was fantastic! I’m just starting to learn, & I don’t think I’ll ever be a performer, I have a horrible time playing or even practicing in front of people. So I have great respect for anyone that can do it… Thank you for sharing this!
