When changing from one rosin to a completely different rosin should you clean off the old rosin from the bow before using the new rosin?? I am thinking of trying out another brand of rosin and don’t want to muck things up.

It won’t necessarily muck things up, but to immediately see the difference between the two, cleaning the old rosin off the hair is the best way. There are good tutorials you can find online to help walk you through the best process.

Cleaning the bow is definitely a good way to do it, or just getting your bow rehaired and starting fresh. But if you don’t want to do either of those things, you can just play your violin while really digging the bow into the strings, wiping off the strings, and repeating. This will remove most of the loose rosin on the bow and you should be good to go with starting a new rosin.
