I received a case with my violin that seems functional but I have a problem with the bow holder – the piece that turns to keep the bow in place.

When I turn the bow holder, the hair of the bow seems to get caught in the mechanism. When I turn it back in order to take out the bow, I have to dig my fingers under the bow hair and give it a little tug since it’s stuck in the mechanism. Is this something that normally happens in bow cases or do I just have a crappy case?

It happens to me from time to time. The only thing I can think to do is just press the hair away from the mechanism to keep it from getting caught.

have you seen the blog on here about bow bugs?? I can’t really link to it right now because my phone is weird, but after reading through it, I’m actually keeping my bow in my case as little as possible hehe

I used to have a problem with the hair getting caught, but now it doesn’t happen. I think I may have broken that thingamajiggy that holds the bow in.

    Ew…bow bugs.

I’ve been taking the suggestion above. I gently touch the bow hair with my fingernail to push it away and it seems to help – at least until I try a better case in the future.

It also happens with me Anteros. Like Hexensohn, I press the hair away from the mechanism before removing it.

It happens to me, too. I just make sure to use two hands to put my bow away or take it out if I am going somewhere. At home, I keep my bows in a bow case, which holds the bows in slots without that turning holder mechanism.

I thought I would post a follow-up on this one. It was definitely the case. I bought a new case and I can turn the little bow holder without the hair doesn’t get stuck in the mechanism. Yay!

I have had this same problem too and am just real careful when I put the bow in or take it out of the case, thankfully I have my fiddle and bow on a wall hanger so I have easy access. I only have to worry about this when I am going somewhere and have to use the case.

Happened to me once or twice… Check the screw on the holder, it might be too loose.
