Hey all! I was wondering if anyone else out there is working up something to perform solo sometime soon (or not so soon). I’ll start! I’m currently polishing up “The Swan” from Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. It’s a transcription for 5-string violin that I made myself. (I play one of Michael’s “Damiano” 5-string instruments) Trying to get the piece ready to share with my church mid-July.

    Hey Scott,
Not sure if this applies but I am working on a hymn to play with another violinist from our church for special music. Nothing too fancy as we are both fairly new to playing the violin, but there will be two parts!! Our goal is to be ready to play in August 🙂

Hi Krissy – That’s great! Duets are so much fun! What tune is it you’re working on?

Hi Scott. I’m currently working on the Largo movement from the Bach Double (I’ve performed the first movement several years ago). Obviously this is a duet, so I won’t be playing solo, and this won’t be performed until next year, but that is what I’m working on.
The next piece I would like to brush up and perform again (I performed it in recital seven or eight years ago) is Bruch’s Kol Nidrei. It’s a beautiful piece, but quite challenging!

“I Surrender All”. It is a very basic arrangement – I have only been playing since mid-April and my friend has been playing since Christmas, but we thought we’d give it a go 🙂

Stick with it, Krissy! The best way to keep progressing is to put yourself out there and have a great reason to have something ready!

I’m also working on a hymn for church and am new. Only been playing for a couple of months. I will play it accompanied by our pianist. The piece is Because He Lives. Gonna take me a while but it’s coming along pretty well.

I am not working on anything to perform right. I practicing scales and etudes; also vibrato. My daughter and I played at a funeral last Wednesday. We played Nearer My God to Thee. That is the song the quartet played in the movie, Titanic.
