I think that the key difference in 4-vs-5-string violins is on each individual model and brand, and in getting the proper shoulder rest and Chin rest for you- everyone is different. This is crucial towards finding that sweet-spot (angle) in your position, to hold the violin is one of the keys to playing 5-string. I’m still finding I need to adjust, Also, my Bridge Lyra was set up where I ordered it from – http://www.ElectricViolinShop.com. Sometimes violins aren’t fully set up and their company is very professional and can make adjustments if you need them.

Also, for violinists, it helps to have a little experience playing a viola, and vice-versa, if you’re coming from a viola standpoint.
