I love performing Handel’s Messiah. The first time I performed it was in college. Our orchestra was quite large, with twelve desks of firsts and sixteen of seconds, about a dozen violas and cellos, and four basses. For the performance we played together with the college’s concert band – normally we were a strings only orchestra. I love playing like that, surrounded by this cloud of sound. so when over thirty years later I started playing again I was pleasantly surprised to find my new group, a small amateur community orchestra, did an annual performance of the Messiah together with the community choir. It’s something to look forward to each year.
