Out of all the wonderful memories that I have since playing violin, there is one that sticks out the most. When I was a junior in high school our teacher took us to Indiana to participate in the Confucius Music Festival at Valparaiso University with Chinese foreign exchange students. It was fun because we spent the whole day there and we got to meet the Chinese students and get to learn how to play some traditional Chinese instruments. We got to learn how to play the erhu, pipa, and guzheng. At the end of the day we all got together and played in a big concert with a professional orchestra and with the foreign exchange students playing the traditional instruments. I will never forget this awesome experience. It shows that music is a universal language and culture, that even though we all come from different parts of the world we can come together and make music.
