Hey Callie, try not to be afraid of the bow as that can cause problems with creating a good sound. Many students tend to hold on to the bow tighter than they should because they feel they need extra security from dropping an expensive bow. The opposite is actually the case as holding the bow tighter makes the bow restricted and disallows it from doing it’s job. If you are scared of dropping the bow, go into a place where dropping the bow wouldn’t cause damage. The fact of the matter is you won’t drop it, but thinking that thought will hurt you. Maybe sit on your bed or close to a carpeted area. Remember the violin is holding the bow for you and it is up to you to guide it. No need to hold it for dear life! 🙂
