Hey Margaret. Vibrato on the G string can consist of a little bit of “cheat” regarding holding the neck a little bit harder than you normally would. You don’t want your hand to slide when you do vibrato on G, so that the instrument can shake enough to produce a slight vibrato sound. You definitely can’t get the same intensity than when you place a finger down on the string, but the sound can still be there by doing the same thing as normal–with a little bit more of a grab of the fingerboard. Shake the violin when you are playing the open G! 🙂
