Another practice tip: record yourself!

For basic practices, I’ve found just sound recordings can used listen for intonation, good vibrato, smooth string crossings, shifts, etc. However, if you have been having trouble with bowings, bow position, etc., a video recording would be recommended. 🙂

Here are a few ways to use this system:
You might watch/listen directly after playing a piece or section of a piece you’re trying to perfect. You might record your entire practice session and listen afterwards. You might practice and listen in alternating segments. Or you might save your recording for tomorrow’s practice, to direct focus and really just continue where you left off.
