These are all great questions Maddie. Everything you are saying relates to how you manage bow tension, which is something I preach heavily about as a teacher. Everything you are saying makes sense that you are perhaps pressing up against the bow too tight with your thumb, pinkie and/or arm, which makes it easy to get a bow bounce when the speed of the bow is going slow. The way you cross strings is also important as this can easily be done with your bicep, instead of just a drop in the arm.
