I play fiddle music for fun but love classical music. The problem with classical is that my standards are too high and I don’t see my progress there as much as I tend to be critical, which is discouraging. Or I get into a competitive mode with myself and push for accomplishment and lose the enjoyment of playing during practice. I guess I never got to be a kid much and still need to learn to have fun! I do love music, though, and am grateful to have a violin again and working out these issues to find balance and progress at an enjoyable pace. I’m so grateful to still have some of my skills and recognize issues to deal with and accept, like my short pinkies.
