This reminded me of my son’s search for the right college. While he visited each campus, looked at the dorms, considered the landscape, the courses offered, the degree he could get, even the cafeteria, parking, extra-curricular activities, off campus life, proximity to home and a dozen other things, it was hard to choose a school. They were all good. They all had similar, exciting promise for a future for him.

So when all the travel was done, I asked him “Have you decided which one you like the best?” and he shook his head in frustration. “I can’t decide.” I thought maybe we had to look at it from a different perspective. I asked him to envision each school and NOT getting to go there. Would you regret not going there? His decision was clear.

So maybe if you envision giving back one or the other of the violins you’re trying to decide between, how does that make you feel?
