I never took those types of statements (that the violin is hard to learn) as discouraging, just as statements of fact! In a way it could be validating to know that I wasn’t the only one who had to work hard to improve. Finally now learning to relax with it and enjoy the process more. Learning to have fun in my 60s after a lifetime of hard work. I play for fun as well as for improvement. Performance is not my goal but might eventually happen as a side effect of my playing. I don’t want to compete with others, just enjoy the music we make.
