Hi Diane – I think the best choice all depends on your primary use. While I don’t have direct experience with TablEdit, from what I’m seeing on their website, it’s designed primarily with fretted instruments in mind (guitar, mandolin, ukulele). It does look like you can use it for typical notation alone, but this is what the software was designed to do. Are you waiting to use it for these instruments, or for violin? What are you looking primarily to do?

As for MuseScore, it is a good and free option. I know many who use it for their arrangements and work. Another standard notation option available is NoteFlight, which is unique in that everything is done and stored online. No software would need to be installed on your computer, and they offer both free and paid tiers, depending on your needs.
