For the first month or so of learning the violin, I was always feeling stressed during lessons and played worse than I would at home. There was one week when I failed to get in any practice, and I went to the lesson accepting the fact that I would be even worse. But oh well, I decided that I would get over it and do better next time. However, I started playing what I should have practiced, my screeching had stopped and I didn’t struggle to find the correct fingerings. My teacher was amazed and thought I had increased my practicing. Maybe taking a break allows time for you to change how you think about whatever new skill or technique is being approached.
