I prefer classical music for listening most of the time but my own playing is not up to the standard that I most enjoy hearing, mainly due, I now know, to left hand tension and thus need for better vibrato. It seems like I feel more serious when playing classical. Fiddle playing seems more fun and I seem to relax and enjoy playing it more, although in small short doses. It helps remind me of the skills that I have retained after so many years of not playing, which seem to be bowing technique and crossing strings and an ear for good intonation. It is a good fun break when I get too serious and discouraged with my sound on classical numbers.
