You can get a clip-on chromatic tuner (I bought a Snark [model SN-5] on Amazon for under $10) and clip it to the scroll so you can see if you are hitting the notes right. You definitely do not want to practice with the wrong sounds or that is how you will end up playing. You NEED visual and aural feedback at first because you don’t have a fret to indicate where you are. Best of luck and maybe you will get some other advice as people get on the boards. Also, see Michael’s beginner video on getting the notes right (sorry I cannot remember the title). He shows some great info on using your fingers as guides….you may not want to end up performing with a chromatic tuner hanging off your instrument. Good luck on getting you violin!
