It never hurts to walk into a shop every now and then and out several. They all sound a little different. I found that a much better sounding instrument makes me want to practice all the time. I used to think I had not progressed at all until I went into a shop and voila, I sounded better! But it’s a personal decision, I think. When you’re ready and can afford it, you’ll know. I went to the jay Rury shop in Richardson Tx and they will let you play as many violins as you want all day and never pressure you. You can give a price range and they won’t go over it. Happy hunting!
